abstract
The idea of spherical particle packing was used to determine some physical properties of the soil: porosity, pore size distribution and moisture retention curve. The packing procedures take into account the compaction effect. A new approach to the pore space characterization is presented. The results concerning porosity and moisture retention of sands are compared with the experimental data.
