abstract Physical properties of four common bean genotypes (Phaseolus vulgaris) were investigated. The randomised complete design showed that static and dynamic coefficients of friction exhibited major differences among bean genotypes, surfaces, and velocity. It was observed that the magnitudes of physical damage in the Sayad genotypes were higher than in the Naz, Daneshkade and Dehghan, respectively. Beans germination decreased with increasing impact strain energy. Aerodynamic tests showed that the terminal velocity of the beans was 12.4 m s-1 on average at a moisture content of 8 to 10% d.b.
