abstract The objective of the study was to show the possibility and feasibility of the application of mathematical planning for the determination of the optimum structural parame- ters and bulk density of the root layer of industrial crops in relation to nutrient supply and other factors. The optimal structural parameters and bulk density were determined for the sowing layers of a typical heavy loam of chernozem type. Patterns of the uptake of nutrients supplied to barley plants were described in relation to agrophysical factors, and to the dosage and application depths of mineral fertilizers.
