abstract The water retention characteristics of peat, sand and their mixtures has been investigated. The results obtained showed that the hydro-physical properties of the mixtures in- vestigated depended on the relation between organic and mineral parts. The greatest changes in bulk density / total porosity, water retention and differential water capacity were observed within the range 0.1-23% of organic matter content in the systems.
